Podcast Smart Supply

Episode 197, week 14, 2025

1 april

A week after our first webinar on AI - AI in the Manufacturing Industry - on 1 April, we are happy to share an additional taster of the current possibilities. For more information on AI in the manufacturing industry, please refer to the upcoming issue of our magazine Signal. In it, you will read two main articles for the first time, both dedicated to the how and why of industrial AI applications.

How did all this come about? Google's Notebook LM was fed the homepage of itsme's web platform and turned it into a (content-accurate) podcast. ChatGPT came up with the title, the names of the hosts and their backgrounds. Seemingly carried away by a passion for fabrication, ‘Chat’ even came unsolicited with a history of Added Value, Rachel Pierce's earlier podcast. And with a target audience: ‘Decision-makers and professionals in technical wholesale and industrial supply chains.’

ChatGPT also lent a hand with the HTML for this web page. Sora, OpenAI's text-to-video/image model, created the image with the fictional podcasters. Given the developments, we suspect that AI will be able to turn homepages and other content into compelling vodcasts before 1 April 2026.

About Smart Supply

The Smart Supply podcast was launched in 2021 when it became clear that the world of technical distribution was craving more in-depth, future-oriented discussions on digitalization, logistics, sustainability, and customer value. The industry was undergoing a major transition—yet there was no platform where real-world experiences, insights, and strategies were shared in an accessible way.

The spark for Smart Supply ignited at an industry conference, where Rachel Pierce—then host of a niche podcast called Added Value—struck up a conversation with Evan Reid, who was working as a marketing and innovation manager at a leading electrical distribution company. They clicked instantly: both wanted to break away from the industry’s outdated image and believed there were plenty of compelling stories to tell—they just needed to be told the right way.

Impact

Since its launch, Smart Supply has become the most-listened-to podcast in the technical distribution industry in North America, with listeners tuning in from Europe, Asia, and even Australia. Frequently cited at conferences and in industry publications, the podcast serves as a bridge between technology, business, and real-world practice.

Covering topics such as:

  • Supply chain resilience post-COVID

  • AI in distribution

  • Customer-specific value propositions

  • The evolving role of the account manager

...Smart Supply has become a must-listen platform for anyone serious about the future of technical distribution.

The hosts of this podcast are:

Evan Reid

Evan is the tech expert with a creative edge. He started his career as an application engineer at a major distributor of automation components but quickly transitioned into business development and marketing. His strength? Making technical complexity understandable and always searching for the "why" behind a trend.

Originally from Denver, Colorado, Evan studied mechanical engineering at Georgia Tech. He was involved in various digitalization projects in the industry before dedicating himself full-time to Smart Supply.

Rachel Pierce

Rachel has a background in technical communication and spent years working on the B2B side of industrial companies. She has a keen eye for brand storytelling and knows better than anyone how to turn dry content into something that truly resonates with people. As a host, she is curious, sharp, and always well-prepared.

She grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, and studied at Purdue University (B.S. in Industrial Communication). In addition to podcasting, she advises companies on content strategy and stakeholder communication.
