Festo – Smart Connectivity
Integrating a servo system is no longer just about mechanical or electrical connections. Smart connectivity is becoming increasingly important: how do you ensure the system works seamlessly with your PLC environment? With the multiprotocol CMMT-AS servo drive, Festo makes this integration easier than ever.
A servo system consists of four main components: the mechanical axis, the gearbox, the servo motor, and the servo drive that controls the motor. For optimal performance, these components must be perfectly matched. Since all these parts influence each other, selecting and dimensioning a system is often a complex puzzle.
That’s why Festo supports engineers with a powerful online tool: Electric Motion Sizing. This tool helps you quickly and intuitively define the specifications for your application. Based on your input, the tool automatically suggests suitable combinations. Filters allow you to refine your selection until you find the most appropriate solution.
In addition to precise sizing, the tool also provides a complete Bill of Materials, including all required mounting components, a detailed calculation report, and a parameter file that can be used directly during system commissioning.
Mechanical connectivity is also well taken care of. Festo’s tool enables the configuration of a complete drive system – even for multi-axis applications. All necessary mounting materials are included automatically, saving both time and costs.
For the electrical connection, Festo offers practical One Cable Technology, allowing you to combine power and data in a single cable. This makes cabling more straightforward and faster.
Finally, there’s intelligent connectivity: the communication between the servo drive and the controller. The CMMT-AS servo drives support various fieldbus protocols such as ProfiNet, EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP, and Modbus, making them easy to integrate into a wide range of automation environments.
