Siemens - TIA Portal V20 and updated controllers
Siemens introduces TIA Portal Version 20, a major upgrade to the Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) Portal. This latest version offers numerous new functionalities, and the accompanying hardware portfolio has been significantly expanded and optimized.
Key Innovations in TIA Portal V20
One of the most notable improvements is the ability to import and export Ladder Diagrams as readable, text-based code. This facilitates version control and maintenance, allowing engineers to work more efficiently.
In addition, the web server in the PLCs has been updated. The web server can now be developed independently of the PLC program and loaded into the PLC. This allows the PLC to remain operational without going into stop mode and responds more quickly.
Improvements have also been made in the area of cybersecurity. Access to the web server and communication via OPC UA can now be centrally managed, providing a higher level of control and security.
Finally, the platform's user-friendliness has been enhanced. The help function has been revamped with a web-based search tool, making technical information easier to find. Additionally, TIA Portal documentation can now be saved offline, ensuring it is always available, even without an internet connection.
New Hardware and Optimized Controllers
In addition to software improvements, Siemens also introduces new and optimized hardware with TIA Portal V20, resulting in better performance and extended functionalities.
New SIMATIC S7-1200 G2
The completely new SIMATIC S7-1200 G2 is more powerful and compact than its predecessors. This new generation supports both single-axis control and coordinated multi-axis control with simple kinematics.
The new CPUs offer integrated fail-safe solutions, where fail-safe signal boards can be directly inserted into the CPU. This makes external signal modules unnecessary in many cases. For improved diagnostics, NFC connectivity has been added, allowing users to quickly and easily connect to the CPU, minimizing downtime.
Improvements in the SIMATIC S7-1500 Series
For the powerful S7-1500 CPUs, particularly the CPU 1517 and CPU 1518, new hardware has been developed. This results in higher performance, improved security, and additional communication capabilities.
The smaller S7-1500 CPUs also benefit from a firmware update, reducing the bit-processing speed to just 6 nanoseconds.
Expansion of Remote I/O Solutions
In the area of remote I/O, Siemens introduces new fail-safe modules, providing even broader coverage of applications with a safe and reliable solution.
With these innovations in TIA Portal V20 and the updated hardware, Siemens takes an important step towards faster, safer, and more efficient industrial automation.
