Siemens safety relay with communication and simulation capability
For years, Siemens has been making it easy to implement local safety applications quickly and efficiently - with SIRIUS 3SK. The 3SK safety relays offer maximum functionality while saving space in the control cabinet.
Highlights
SIRIUS 3SK2 with Profinet
- Seamless integration of safety applications at automation level
- Parameterisation and diagnosis from any location with Safety ES
- Installation information on all devices, such as smartphones
SIRIUS 3SK2 with SIRIUS SIM
- Offline simulation of applications - finds the right component
- Create configurations and test without physical components!
Communication
The flexible, modular series of safety relays can be optionally extended with a Profinet communication module. This helps users seamlessly integrate safety applications into their automation systems. With the SIRIUS 3SK2 safety relay, you can easily configure multiple safety functions in one compact product. With the user-friendly drag & drop parameterisation software Safety ES, you can easily design and test safety functions and optionally simulate your design using SIRIUS SIM or diagnose the application.
This opens up new possibilities without extensive wiring or programming. Profinet provides remote access to parameter settings and extensive diagnostic functions. This greatly simplifies commissioning and diagnosis, reducing or even eliminating downtimes. Machine operators can quickly access the specific factory information they need on the HMI or smartphone.
Simulation
Many machine builders are faced with the need to quickly and easily find the right component for their application. The free SIRIUS SIM 3SK2 simulator software gives users the chance to familiarise themselves with the wide range of functions in 3SK2 based on existing applications. Configurations can also be created and tested in the simulator. The ability to create and test configurations quickly and easily saves time and money during the engineering phase, as no physical components are required for simulation and applications can be modified with great ease and in a short time.
TIA Portal and Safety ES
Safety ES software can be integrated into TIA Portal in addition to the usual standalone use. This provides you with a unique combination between SIMATIC PLC control and 3SK2 safety relays.
Hardware
The 22.5mm SIRIUS 3SK2 is the narrowest software parameterisable safety relay on the market. It has 10 safe inputs, 2 safe and 1 signal outputs. This is sufficient to realise 3 to 4 safety functions directly with one module. With the 45 mm wide 3SK2 version, which has 20 safe inputs, 4 safe- and 2 signal outputs, you can even realise 6 to 8 safety functions. This version has a diagnostic display. The outputs of the 3SK2 can be independently assigned and controlled.
Applications
Typical applications for SIRIUS 3SK2 are emergency stop circuits, access (gate) monitoring, area monitoring and muting with light curtain or laser scanner. Additional safety applications can easily be realised according to your requirements.
Easy to combine
Like the SIRIUS 3SK1 safety relay, the SIRIUS 3SK2 is easy to combine via connection adapters with 3SK1 output expansion modules and SIRIUS 3RM1 failsafe motor starters - even without additional wiring!
The SIRIUS 3SK safety relays can be seamlessly integrated into machine automation. This minimises the engineering and training impact and has a positive impact on system availability. Flexibility is guaranteed thanks to the modular design and user-friendly software interface of the 3SK safety relays.

Avebe - A Good Night’s Sleep Thanks to FactoryScanRead moreCompanies often have no clear idea of the installed base of industrial automation in their factories and warehouses. With FactoryScan, itsme can provide an overview of the current status of automation components such as PLCs. Potato processor Royal Avebe uses the results to update their component stock and assess future availability. The scan is intended to reduce the number of hardware-related disruptions Process Control Engineer Johan Wierenga has to deal with. It also helps him sleep better, knowing the stock is up to date.
