Danfoss Integrated Motion Controller

Synchronising and positioning without a servo controller

Realise highly accurate positioning and synchronisation by simply using a frequency converter. With its Integrated Motion Controller function (IMC) the VLT Automation Drive FC 302 replaces more complex servo controllers, saving time and costs.

In the past, positioning and synchronisation were usually carried out by means of a servo drive or a drive controller. In fact, for many of these applications the dynamic performance of a servo drive is superfluous.
Therefore, the Danfoss FC 302 drive with IMC option provides a cheap and high-quality alternative for fixed axis positioning and synchronisation applications.

You can apply IMC to:
  • packaging machines
  • cutting machines
  • rotary tables

Use the FC 302 for regulating an induction or PM motor – with or without motor feedback – without the need for extra hardware. In a sensorless controller (no motor feedback) the best performance is achieved with a PM motor. A sensorless control of induction motors suffices for less high-demanding applications.
IMC saves you time and costs:
  • no advanced programming and less components means that design, installation and commissioning take less time;
  • by using a sensorless controller you save the costs of a feedback device;
  • save the costs for a starting position sensor and matching cabling by virtue of the “homing on torque limit” function (torque limit for returning to the starting position).

The IMC solution guarantees a simple and safe setup:
  • configuration on the basis of parameters, no advanced programming required. Minimal risk of errors due to reduced complexity;
  • for extra functionality use the Smart Logic Controller (SLC) which is fully compatible with IMC;
  • use the “home synchronising” function (synchronisation of the starting position) to adjust the starting position during operation.
