SIRIUS 3SK Safety relays, Simplified
Hardware solution with SIRIUS 3SK1
Got a simple system that you need to keep safe to SIL 3 and PL e levels? Look no further than the SIRIUS 3SK1 Serie of safety relays from Siemens. Designed for flexibility and ease of integration, the platform is targeted at simple safety-critical operations such as emergency stops, two-hand operator panels, light curtains up to protective door monitoring. The series is constructed as a clear modular system, so that users of installations can quickly, easily and cost-effectively put together a good and safe configuration.
The line is based on two relays: the Standard and the Advanced basic unit, which are available with safe relay- or safe solid state outputs. Each Standard basic unit interfaces with a single component, whether by accepting input from a sensor or delivering output to an actuator. The Advanced basic unit offers more options, letting users configure additional parameters to suit their application. Like NC / NO switches, cascade application and time function.
Expansion modules
It also boasts power supply module, motor starter till 3kW (3RM1) and additional in- and output capabilities. For larger systems or retrofits, start with just one Advanced Basic Unit and add input and output expansion modules to size to suit. The expansion modules don’t even need to be wired, courtesy of an innovative device connector that passes power from the Advance Basic Unit to connect in a snap – literally.
Software solution with SIRIUS 3SK2
The SIRIUS 3SK2 safety relay offers multiple safety functions in one compact product. With the user-friendly drag & drop parameterization software you can easily design safety functions and optionally simulate, test or diagnose the application. The 22.5mm SIRIUS 3SK2 is the narrowest software-parameterizable safety relay on the market. It has 10 safe inputs, 2 safe- and 1 signal outputs. This is sufficient to immediately realize 3 to 4 safety functions with one module. With the 45 mm wide 3SK2 version, which has 20 safe inputs, 4 safe and 2 signal outputs, you can even realize 6 to 8 safety functions. This version has a diagnostic display. The outputs of the 3SK2 can be assigned and controlled independently of each other. Typical applications for SIRIUS 3SK2 are multiple emergency stop push buttons, safety doors and gates with or without locking function or conveyor belt supply with light curtain. Additional safety applications can be easily implemented according to your requirements.
Good to combine
Like the SIRIUS 3SK1 safety relay, the SIRIUS 3SK2 is easy to combine via connection adapters with 3SK1 output expansion modules and SIRIUS 3RM1 motor starters - even without additional wiring!
The SIRIUS 3SK safety relays can be seamlessly integrated into machine automation technology. This minimizes the engineering and training impact and has a positive effect on plant availability. Flexibility is guaranteed thanks to the modular system or the user-friendly software interface of the 3SK safety relays.

Van Meer - Quick Connection for Energy StorageRead moreDrive specialist Van Meer developed an energy storage system for heavy-duty drives and designed a custom battery system for it. For the connectors in the battery system’s cabinet, their regular supplier itsme recommended omni-brand partner Phoenix Contact. Excellent connectors — only the frame didn’t fit. Phoenix Contact quickly developed a customer-specific connector design. itsme now supplies Van Meer with complete connector sets, including the custom plug.

Avebe - A Good Night’s Sleep Thanks to FactoryScanRead moreCompanies often have no clear idea of the installed base of industrial automation in their factories and warehouses. With FactoryScan, itsme can provide an overview of the current status of automation components such as PLCs. Potato processor Royal Avebe uses the results to update their component stock and assess future availability. The scan is intended to reduce the number of hardware-related disruptions Process Control Engineer Johan Wierenga has to deal with. It also helps him sleep better, knowing the stock is up to date.

Elektro VV - The right expertise in the right placeRead moreElektro VV, based in the Belgian province of Antwerp, carries out general electrical work and solar panel installations for both companies and private individuals. For complex projects, the company calls on Breemes, which brings expertise such as low-voltage studies. “The challenge is to design a panel that can be built quickly and efficiently, and is future-proof.”

OI - Warm relationship with supplierRead moreThe O-I glass factory in Leerdam produces 3.5 million beer bottles every day. The challenge of keeping production running 24/7 is tackled together with trusted supplier itsme. They ensure that technicians never run out of stock during maintenance and that critical components like cables and sensors are heat-resistant. This makes life much more relaxed for supervisor Patrick Maduro and his team in the electrical engineering department.
