Eaton - Smart circuit breakers that measure power consumption

Eaton offers several circuit breakers that, in addition to their function as motor protection switches, circuit breakers, load breakers and/or main switches, allow you as a user to measure power consumption in and around your machine. Thanks to this integrated current measurement function, energy flows at various points in the machine and plant grid can be accurately and continuously visualised, and corresponding consumption logged.

The following three lines of circuit breakers have this integrated functionality:

PKE

The electronic variant of the motor circuit breaker PKZ. This circuit breaker measures the current per phase and is available in the range from 0.3 A - 65 A. By using PKE-XTUCP thermal blocks, a PKE motor circuit breaker can easily be upgraded to a PKE line breaker of 15-65A.

NZM

Circuit breaker applicable in a range from 20 to 1600 A. The current ‘Digital NZM’ comes in sizes 2, 3 and 4. and can be equipped with a digital protection and communication unit, the PXR 20/25. Eaton also offers specific NZM versions for line and motor protection.

IZMX

For higher currents, these circuit breakers are available in a range from 400 to 6300 A. In addition, the IZMX also fits perfectly into a main distribution board, where it can monitor total energy flows. With high interrupting and short-circuit current ratings and a wide range of functions for trip units.

Why measure energy in and around your machine?

Measuring energy flows in and around your machine is more than just a technological step you take: it is a strategic approach that helps you gain in-depth insights into the energy consumption of your machine, your entire fleet of machines and even your entire organisation. With these insights, you can then realise significant energy savings, perform predictive maintenance and optimise the energy distribution in a production environment.

By taking the first step of measuring energy flows, as a user or builder of a production machine or plant, you will both improve your operational efficiency and contribute to a more sustainable future. Eaton's NZM, IZMX and PKE solutions mentioned above will help to make a start or upgrade in your plant.

Avebe - A Good Night’s Sleep Thanks to FactoryScan
Companies often have no clear idea of the installed base of industrial automation in their factories and warehouses. With FactoryScan, itsme can provide an overview of the current status of automation components such as PLCs. Potato processor Royal Avebe uses the results to update their component stock and assess future availability. The scan is intended to reduce the number of hardware-related disruptions Process Control Engineer Johan Wierenga has to deal with. It also helps him sleep better, knowing the stock is up to date.
