ABB - EPD24 protection module offers the solution
High uptime and security for production environments
Downtime in production environments is a source of lost revenue and also creates disruption that passes through the production process like toppling dominoes. Focused security is therefore a prerequisite. The ABB combination CP-S.1 power supply and EPD24 protection module offers the solution.
It is common for 24 V DC circuits to be protected with circuit breakers. However, when using switching power supplies, these will regularly fail to switch on, especially in the event of an overload. In many cases, the power reserve is limited to 1.5 times the rated current. In case of overload, the output voltage of the power supply will collapse and therefore cannot supply the current required to switch on the circuit breaker. In contrast, the trip characteristics of the EPD24 are ideally suited to 24 V control circuits and switch on as early as 1.1 times the rated current.
Powerful combination
With the powerful combination of CP-S.1 power supply and EPD24 protection module, not only the power supply is protected but also four channels can be protected individually and switched off independently in the event of a short circuit or overcurrent. Thus PLCs, contactor or motor protection devices that are part of a machine solution can be protected individually. A pre-alarm can also be used to prevent unwanted tripping. Convenient for panel builders or machine manufacturers: the slim modules fit into any enclosure and are both front-wired. CP-S.1 and EPD24 also have low power losses and similar tripping behaviour. All the ingredients for seamless integration are thus in place.
