Which Harting connection technology suits my application?
HARTING provides various solutions for field attachable connectors, crucial for industries requiring on-site assembly, installation, repair or machine expansion. These connectors provide fast, efficient electrical and data connections with minimal preparation and tools.
To do this, they offer various technologies, including screw connectors, spring connectors, push-in connectors and insulation displacement connectors (IDC).
One of the oldest solutions is the screw terminal, where a screwdriver tightens a plate against the wire. This method is widely used in household appliances and industrial environments, but is less suitable for large-scale connections due to variable clamping forces. The axial screw joint is a more advanced version, requiring a hex bolt with torque. It delivers consistent results, saves space, is vibration-resistant and is used in transport, energy and mechanical engineering.
The spring compression clamps allow quick connections with minimal tools. Pre-assembled springs ensure constant clamping force, minimise power loss and meet stringent railway standards for shock and vibration resistance. Harting offers two variants: one that uses a screwdriver to open the clamp, and one that allows direct wire entry and closes the clamp when the actuator is released.
Push-in connections are an evolution of spring clamps, which allow conductors to be inserted directly into the contact chamber. This reduces assembly time by up to 30%. In addition, Han-Modular® connectors use this technology for different wire diameters and provide fast and efficient connections.
For solder-free and versatile connections, Harting uses IDC technology. This involves pressing conductors into a metal contact, cutting the insulation to form a gas-tight, corrosion-resistant connection. Originally used in telecommunications, IDC is now also used in a wide range of industrial and data connectors. It ensures reliable and fast installations with standard tools. This technology is fast, simple and reliable, providing secure connections for transferring data, signals and power.
Each technology offers unique advantages, ranging from the simplicity of screw connectors to the efficiency of push-in and IDC connectors. This allows us to meet the diverse needs in the industry for reliable electrical and data connections.
